The Clear Cut Future Thanks to season sales and the like, a few weeks ago I snagged a discounted copy of The Clear Cut Future, an anthology of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and photography published by Portland’s Clear Cut Press. Among the varied contents are contributions from Stacey Levine, Charles D’Ambrosio, Steve Weiner, and Pravin Jain (noted by Clear Cut as a former Enron executive, which is a dubious advertising point to say the least), mapping – as the publisher puts it – “the territory of interest to Clear Cut Press.” It’s a quality anthology with a premise I can appreciate, and it happens to be beautifully printed. The dimensions are small but thick, paperback but with a neat little dust jacket, and good paper. The book is clearly the product of some kind of vision; for a sculpted coagulation of writing in a particular form, that is, the rare appearance of a dust-jacketed paperback, kicking off a series of similarly designed but varied publications for Clear Cut.

Unfortunately, Clear Cut hasn’t updated it’s website since 2007 and although the publishers haven’t formally declared the Press open or closed, the last public event they hosted yielded spectacularly mixed results. However, many of their publications are still available via their website and
